LAS VEGAS — The Entertainment Merchants Association July 16 reinstalled Ingram Entertainment's Bob Geistman as chairman of the board of directors and added Target's Tracey Koller as vice chairman. Former vice chairman Marty Graham remained on the board as treasurer, while former treasurer Leigh Ann Moore stayed on as secretary.
New York's Emerald City Video owner Jim Loperfido became iDEA chairman of the board, with Kathy Slocum from Iowa's Video Place also remaining on the board, representing iDEA.
The board also welcomed new members Mark Higgins from Trans World Entertainment, Amazon.com's Steve Oliver, CinemaNow's Curt Marvis and iDEA member Tom Paine.
In other board news, the EMA said it would authorize President Bo Andersen to “take any legal action necessary” to combat a New York state violent video game law passed by the state senate and making its way through the state assembly.
If approved, the legislation would require retailers to place a rating on the cover of every video game sold in the state and “would establish a new Advisory Council on Media, Entertainment Software and Youth Violence, which will review and make recommendations on the effectiveness of the current Entertainment Software Ratings Boards (ESRB) ratings system in keeping violent video games out of the hands of youth.”
