French Pull DVDs

3 May, 2005 By: Holly J. Wagner

A French appellate court has ordered DVDs of David Lynch's Mulholland Drive removed from store shelves as part of a ruling against copy protection, the Associated Press reported.

According to a spokesman for the plaintiff in the case, consumer group UFC-Que Choisir, “No DVD or CD that has the device can be sold” in France, meaning 80 percent of DVDs now on the French market would be illegal.

The defendants were also found guilty of violating consumer protection laws requiring disclosure of a product's “essential characteristics.”
