Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace is not only the fastest-selling DVD ever, it's now also the biggest-selling DVD of the year, according to a Fox press release.
With citing any sales numbers or specific retail locations, Twentieth Century Fox claims that more than 65% of the initial shipments have been purchased at "traditional retail outlets" in North America.
Said Jim Ward, v.p. of marketing, Lucasfilm Ltd., "This stellar salesperformance is even more impressive given that it is nearly three years afterits theatrical release and 18 months after its VHS release."
Mike Dunn, executive v.p. of sales and marketing, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, said there's a possibility some retailers might run out of copies of Episode I for sale."We're doing everything possible to insure that we are not in an out-of-stocksituation at retail, but given this velocity of sales, it'll be close."
