Fox Recalls Temple Charm Bracelets

5 May, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment May 5 began a voluntary recall of about 730,000 charm bracelets included in select Shirley Temple DVD releases.

Fox is seeking a return of the bracelets — made in China — based on information they may contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

The studio contacted the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which issued the recall of the silver-colored metal charms included in specially marked pink packaging sold from August 2005 through April 2006. Some DVD cases contain only charms. Others contain charm bracelets with charms.

The charms were included in the following Temple titles: Curly Top, Heidi, Little Miss Broadway (which comprise the Shirley Temple Collection Vol. 1), Baby Take a Bow, Bright Eyes, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (which comprise the Shirley Temple Collection Vol. 2), Dimples, The Little Colonel and The Littlest Rebel (which comprise the Shirley Temple Collection Vol. 3).

They come in various shapes including animals, hats, treble clefs and lollipops. The DVD boxes are marked with “Bonus Charm Bracelet Inside” or “Bonus Charm Inside.”
