First Look to Roll Out First Titles in Nu Image Deal

4 Jan, 2005 By: Holly J. Wagner

First Look Home Entertainment has struck its first multipicture deal with Avi Lerner's Nu Image to distribute six of Nu Image's mutant/disaster films on DVD throughout North America this year.

Titles in the deal are Larva, MosquitoMan, SnakeMan, SharkMan, Nature Unleashed: Tornado and Nature Unleashed: Volcano, beginning with Larva in April. Many of the titles are slated for Sci-Fi Channel premieres in 2005.

“After the success of The Bone Snatcher, First Look Home Entertainment wanted to invest further into the popular creature genre. Partnering with a company such as Nu Image that excels at films with high production values, excellent creature effects and innovative story lines is the perfect starting point,” said Bill Bromiley, SVP sales and distribution, First Look Media. “Nu Image is one of the most prolific suppliers of high-end DVD product to studios and independent suppliers, and it makes sense to fully enter this market with such a respected company,” Bromiley said.

“We are delighted to conclude a deal with First Look Home Entertainment. We feel they have an aggressive and knowledgeable sales team that will maximize the return on these outstanding special effects films,” said Dave Sobieraj, president, domestic video & television for Nu Image.

The deal to acquire U.S. DVD and VHS titles was negotiated for low seven figures by First Look's Peter Lawson, Bromiley and Nu Image's Sobieraj.

“Avi Lerner has a tremendous reputation for making quality commercial films,” Bromiley said. “We are very excited to partner with Nu Image in the upcoming year,” Lawson said.
