Fest Fetes Maverick's Schwab26 Aug, 2004 By: Holly J. Wagner
Maverick Entertainment Group president and founder Doug Schwab will be honored with the “Beacon of Light” Award at the 2004 Houston Multicultural Independent Film Festival.
“In the past, independent filmmakers had very few distribution outlets for their movies, but Doug being a pioneer in the industry has made the process of searching the market easier by giving filmmakers the opportunity to produce and distribute quality films,” festival executive director Stephen Allen said.
Schwab launched Maverick in 1992 and has produced more than 350 direct-to-video titles.
“I am honored to be recognized by the Houston Multicultural Independent Film Festival. We at Maverick Entertainment are enthusiastic about the future of urban filmmaking,” Schwab said. “We are confident that more independent films will find their way to the marketplace, because it's our mission to produce and package diverse motion pictures for domestic distribution.”
This four-day indie film festival is in its third year. Its goal is to educate independent film professionals on new ways to market and distribute their movies, products and services, as well as share innovative film funding ideas.
Schwab will be honored at an event Sept. 25 at the Houston Hyatt Regency Hotel.
