ESPN Jumps to Genius

11 Jul, 2006 By: Thomas K. Arnold

Genius Products, soon to be 70% owned by The Weinstein Co., has signed a five-year video distribution agreement with ESPN.

The deal covers ESPN Original Entertainment titles like 3, Four Minutes and The Junction Boys, along with SportsCentury, ESPN Classic, ESPN Outdoors, X Games, ABC Sports, and college sports titles.

ESPN, which is owned by The Walt Disney Co., had previously been distributed by Buena Vista, Disney's distribution arm.

Under the deal, which runs through Dec. 31, 2011, Genius will distribute at least 15 titles a year.

“ESPN Home Entertainment's rapid growth and expanding range of products provides an exciting opportunity for Genius, and we are thrilled to offer their content to our retail network,” said Trevor Drinkwater, president and CEO of Genius Products.

“Genius is expanding and diversifying its content with leading brands, and our agreement with ESPN is yet another example of our positive momentum.”
