Rapper Eminem hopes to bring a little Hollywood to Detroit as cameras get ready to roll on the music star's movie debut.
A drama spun around Eminem's rise to stardom, the movie focuses on Marshall Mathers III's (Eminem) real-life experiences as a suburban Detroit rapper trying to break through.
"Untitled Detroit Project," directed by Curtis Hanson, will begin shooting in the Detroit area in September.Imagine Films, producer of the movie for distributor Universal Studios, will open a Detroit production office early next month, the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.
Eminem, who has been criticized for his harsh lyrical references to gays and women, will star in the movie.
According to the Associated Press, the film could be released by next summer, accompanied by a soundtrack album with at least four new songs written by Eminem and Dr. Dre, as well as rerecorded versions of Eminem hits.
The film and soundtrack also are expected to feature an appearance by Detroit rap pack D12, of which Eminem is a member.
"Untitled Detroit Project" would be the first major-studio film to spend substantial time filming inDetroit since Out of Sight, a crime drama starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, shot in thecity in 1997, according to the AP.
