EMA Nominates Best Games26 Apr, 2007 By: Jessica Wolf
The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) has announced the nominees for its 2007 Video Game Home Entertainment Awards.
There are 85 nominees in 18 categories that encompass all gaming platforms and top genres. Winners will be announced at EMA's Video Game Retailers' Council Event May 22.
The Video Game Retailers Council is a new internal EMA committee similar to the Retail Advisory Council. The May 22 event, a forum for game retailers to talk with game publishers, will be in San Jose, Calif.
In the past, the trade group presented just three annual game awards, for the best games in each major console platform. This year, EMA expanded the awards to include all major platforms and a variety of genres, including action/adventure, casual, children/family, fighting, racing, RPG (role playing)/strategy and shooter/military games. Awards also will be presented for best graphics, most innovative game, and best game of the year.
Competing for the top billing as “Game of the Year” are: Gears of War (Microsoft); Guitar Hero II (Red Octane); World of Warcraft (Blizzard); God of War 2: Divine Retribution (Sony Computer Entertainment of America); and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo).
Among the game studios with the most nominations are Nintendo with 14 nominations and Electronic Arts with 9 nominations. The complete list of nominees is available at www.entmerch.org/body_video_games.
