The Entertainment Merchant's Association will bestow its Humanitarian Award upon Ed Begley Jr. at this year's Home Entertainment Awards. The ceremony takes place June 24 during EMA's Home Media Expo 2008, running June 24-26 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Begley earned the honor for his longstanding commitment to environmental causes.

“He has been committed to this cause long before it was making front-page news,” said EMA President Bo Andersen. “Ed is not only involved in several environmental organizations, but extends his efforts into living an extraordinarily ‘green' lifestyle — truly living by example.”

Begley currently co-stars with his wife, Rachelle Carson, in the HGTV series “Living With Ed,” which chronicles the daily activities of the couple as they live a green lifestyle.

Begley recently finished narrating several titles from the “Earth Cinema Circle” DVD series, a subscription-based DVD series that focuses on the importance of preserving Earth's natural resources.

DVDs from both series will be available from Gaiam.

As an advocate for environmentally friendly living, Begley has served as chairman for the Environmental Media Association, the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, and participates on many boards of organizations including the Thoreau Institute, the Earth Communications Office, Tree People and Friends of the Earth.
