EMA Honoring Burns

12 Jun, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf

Acclaimed actor Ed Burns will be honored with the Independent Career Achievement Award at VSDA's Home Entertainment 2006 July 11-13.

The trade group, newly dubbed the Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA), chose the actor because he is the “quintessential independent filmmaker,” said president Bo Anderson.

"He creates films that are personal and true to his vision and appealing to audiences,” he said. “By doing so, he has provided our industry with a diverse body of movies that continue to enjoy success on home video."

The actor-director-star's 1995 The Brothers McMullen received the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, as well as an Independent Spirit Award.

Burns' upcoming projects include The Groomsmen, a Bauer Martinez Entertainment film distributed through Vivendi Visual Entertainment that hits theaters July 14.

ThinkFilm will release Looking for Kitty, which Burns also directed/wrote/produced and stars in opposite David Krumholtz.
