Electronic Arts will release a limited edition DVD for the new The Sims 2 game scheduled for release Sept. 17.

The game is the next generation sequel of the popular The Sims PC game. This is the first DVD release in The Sims franchise and initially will only be available through preorders at major retailers.

The DVD will be available in North America only at the same price as the CD-ROM version.

The special limited DVD edition will include a full version of The Sims 2 game plus bonus material. The bonus features are detailed tips and hints from the game's designers; a “Filmmaking 101” feature that teaches how to create movies in The Sims 2 , from the designer that created the in-game movie-maker; movies created in-game by the developers and outtakes that feature hilarious bugs & bloopers that never made it into the shipping version of the game; wallpapers; a fan site kit to create a fan Web site; and an assortment of sizzle movies and screen shots of actual gameplay.

In The Sims 2, players for the first time will be able to control their Sims over an entire lifetime. Every choice that is made has an effect on the life of a Sim. With the addition of genetics, Sims now pass their DNA down through generations.

"We're excited to be giving our community of fans the ability to really immerse themselves in the world of The Sims," said Lucy Bradshaw, executive producer of the game at EA's Maxis studio. "Not only will players enjoy endless hours of gameplay filled with numerous adventures, they'll be able to enhance their Sims experience with the bonus features included in this special edition DVD."
