DVDs ‘Selling Like Hotcakes' in Europe, Study Finds

8 Mar, 2005 By: Stephanie Prange

European sales and rentals of DVD totaled about $9.3 billion (U.S.) in 2004 and will grow to nearly $17 billion (U.S.) in 2009, according a study by research firm In-Stat.

The study also found locally produced content the fastest-growing DVD segment in European markets.

“DVD players are becoming ubiquitous, and DVD discs are selling like hotcakes,” the study stated.

The study also found new digital delivery services are more likely to complement rather than supplant the DVD business in Europe.
