DVD Up, VHS Smacked Down at WWE27 Jun, 2002 By: Holly J. Wagner
World Wrestling Entertainment felt a 12 percent increase in home video revenues, primarily because of increased DVD sales, in the 2001 fiscal year ended April 30, the company reported.
Home video revenues of $13.6 million for the year relied on “increased sales of DVDs resulting from the increase in the number of titles offered in DVD format” and pulled some sales off VHS. That change showed up largely in the company's fourth quarter, when home video sales were up 86 percent from the same quarter in fiscal year 2000.
DVD accounted for 49 percent of the quarter's $4.9 million in home video revenues, compared to just 13 percent in the prior year quarter.
