The Consumer Electronics Association reports DVD hardware is now on track to outsell VHS hardware by about 2 million units by year end.

In the first quarter, DVD player factory-to-dealer sales grew 11.2 percent to 2.6 million units, about 100,000 more than the VHS player tally of 2.5 million.

DVD player sales increased 32 percent in February and 9 percent in March compared to the same periods last year. DVD player sales surpassed VHS player sales for the first time in September of last year.
