1 Oct, 2004 By: Brendan Howard

Events around the world and six DVD releases from Warner Home Video will celebrate the centennial of director George Stevens' birth.

Films new to DVD from Warner include the adventure Gunga Din, starring Cary Grant; I Remember Mama; George Stevens: D-Day to Berlin, with his son narrating the documentary about Stevens' work as a World War II combat photographer; and the documentary George Stevens: A Filmmaker's Journey, created by Stevens himself. Resolicited Stevens-directed titles include Alice Adams, Woman of the Year and Giant.

The George Stevens Centennial DVDs (street Dec. 7, prebook Nov. 9), are $19.97 each, except for the two-disc Giant ($26.99).

The events kicked off with the Gala George Stevens Centennial Night, hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in Los Angeles Oct. 1. Film festivals, TV specials, DVD releases, and magazine articles and books will be released through the rest of the year.
