DVD Cases Have A Lot To Say

Like miniature billboards, a plethora of DVD stickers marked DVD sections last week.

Stickers on the A Walk to Remember DVD offered purchasers a free issue of Teen People magazine.

Jimmy Neutron stickering promoted an enclosed Nickelodeon DVD sampler and coupon book.

Stickers on the Ocean's Eleven DVD queried shoppers: “Are you in or out? If you're in you could win a trip to Las Vegas and $5,000.”

At Target, the Tarzan & Jane DVD offered a free coupon good for a 7-ounce package of Nabisco Teddy Grahams. The offer expires Aug. 3.

Other titles used stickers to tout themselves. A sticker on the A Beautiful Mind DVD read “special features hosted by Academy Award winners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.” The Royal Tenenbaums DVD sported a fashionable pink sticker labeling the disc a “director approved special edition,” with an imprint of director Wes Anderson's signature. I Am Sam's silver sticker identified it as a widescreen version and listed the DVD extras.

The John Q. DVD had two stickers: a silver one touting the disc's Infinifilm specs and another one offering a $5 rebate with the purchase of I Am Sam and John Q.

Several others touted savings with the purchase of other DVDs. Hart's War stickering offered $3 off instantly with another purchase from a list of six other MGM war/action titles. A Kate & Leopold DVD on-pack sticker promoted a $5 instant savings with the purchase of one of Buena Vista's Serendipity, Chocolat or Bridget Jones's Diary.

A clear sticker on the Pearl Harbor Director's Cut DVD called out to “Pearl Harbor Owners” and offered a $10 savings by mail on the director's cut for shoppers who already own the previously released Pearl Harbor 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition DVD. The offer is good until Jan. 2.
