Cable outlet American Movie Classics (AMC) has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Paramount Pictures to bring 32 of John Wayne's films to television.
Included in the deal are 1954's The High and the Mighty and 1953's Island in the Sky, both of which Paramount Home Entertainment will debut on DVD Aug. 2 (prebook June 21) after they are shown on AMC. It will be the first time either has aired in more than 25 years.
The High and the Mighty bows as a two-disc collector's set at $19.99, with Island in the Sky a single-disc set at $14.99. The sets include an introduction by critic Leonard Maltin, historical featurettes and special commentaries with aviation experts.
The AMC deal also includes Hondo, El Dorado, The Shootist, Sons of Katie Elder, True Grit, Hatari, Donovan's Reef and Flying Tigers.
