During the Merrill Lynch Media & Entertainment Conference Sept. 18, DreamWorks Animation SKG CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg reiterated what he said during the company's second quarter earnings call July 31: Shrek the Third will do well on DVD, but don't expect any records.
“I'm confident it will be among the top performers for the holidays, but there are a couple things going on in the video market that make us cautious,” he said. Citing the number of box office hits streeting on DVD around the same date as the Nov. 13 date for Shrek the Third (the “greatest lineup ever,” he said), and an overall “soft market” for DVD at retail this year, Katzenberg once again called for tempered expectations for the DVD.
“The category as a whole is going to be very strong, but there's going to be some cannibalization,” he said.
Distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment, the Shrek the Third DVD will include an interactive special feature called “Worcestershire Academy Yearbook,” a featurette called “Shrek's Guide to Parenthood,” a behind the scenes featurette, deleted scenes, a series of DreamWorks Kids bonuses, DVD-ROM games and more. SRP is $29.99.
