DivX Extends Philips License4 Mar, 2008 By: Erik Gruenwedel
DivX, creator of a digital media format that rivals Microsoft's Windows Media Video and others, March 4 said it upped a new two-year license deal with Philips Electronics.
The San Diego-based media company said the agreement allows Philips to include DivX video software in future DVD, portable devices, digital televisions and Blu-ray players.
DivX claims its software format has been included in more than 100 million consumer electronics devices.
“We are extremely pleased to extend our relationship with Philips in order to continue offering global consumers the ability to access their video content on any device they choose,” said CEO Kevin Hell.
Last month, DivX ceased operations of Stage6.com, a video file-sharing site.
