Disney Studio Chief Exits for Broadway

20 Jun, 2001 By: Hive News

Walt Disney studio head Peter Schneider is stepping down after just 17 months to form an independent Broadwaytheater production and investment company, partiallyfunded by Disney.

Schneider became chairman of Walt Disney Studios in January 2000 after Joe Roth left to start Revolution Studios. Roth succeeded Jeffrey Katzenberg, who left in the wake of a heated public dispute with Disney to form DreamWorks SKG.

No successor has been named.

As studio chief, Schneider has presided over several high-profile box office releases, including Pearl Harbor, which has failed to meet Disney's high expectations, and Atlantis.
