Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced its plans for the continued expansion of Blu-ray Disc offerings in 2008, including technological advancements and a slate of releases.

Sleeping Beauty will be the first of Disney's animated classics released in a Platinum Edition Blu-ray Disc in fall 2008. It will feature a virtual castle using the new BD-Live technology and “Maleficent's Challenge,” an interactive game with one of Disney's most notable villains.

The 2008 Blu-ray release of Finding Nemo will debut the first Cine-Explore with BonusView, an interactive picture-in-picture commentary that viewers can watch simultaneously with the film. It also has a BD-Java enabled learning mode that teaches children about sea life and gives quizzes throughout the film.

Other upcoming theatrical Blu-ray releases include The Game Plan (Jan. 22), Gone Baby Gone and Becoming Jane (Feb. 12) and Dan in Real Life on March 11. Catalog releases include Crimson Tide (Feb. 5) and The Rookie on March 4. Other catalog titles slated for release in spring of 2008 are Hidalgo; Coyote Ugly: The Double Shot Edition; Unbreakable; The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; and National Treasure: Collector's Edition.
