The Game Plan

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is going for gold with its upcoming DVD and Blu-ray Disc of The Game Plan, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

The football-themed film tells of Boston Rebels quarterback Joe Kingman (Johnson), who trades a bachelor lifestyle for ballet lessons when 7-year-old Peyton — his child from a previous marriage — shows up on his doorstep. Due. Jan. 22, 2008, (prebook Dec. 11) the $29.99 DVD and $37.99 Blu-ray boast a winning team of sports-related special features.

“Drafting The Game Plan” is a behind-the-scenes featurette with insights from director Andy Fickman on how they choreographed realistic football sequences — including one that almost knocked out a stuntman. “ESPN Sportscenter: The Rock Learns to Play QB” features ESPN's Sean Salisbury interviewing Johnson on how he learned how to play quarterback for the movie.

“Bloopers with Marv Albert” features a gag reel with narration from the infamous sportscaster. “Peyton's Makeover Madness” is a featurette that allows users to help Peyton redecorate Joe Kingman's apartment.

Blu-ray exclusive featurettes include “The King in Search of a Ring,” in which Stuart Scott of ESPN hosts a fictional look at Joe Kingman, and “Chalk Talk,” with Johnson and Fickman adding to their commentary with “sports booth” style graphics on screen.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray feature deleted scenes with optional intros by Fickman.
