28 Apr, 2004 By: Erik Gruenwedel

As expected, The Walt Disney Co. has completed acquisition of the “Muppets” and “Bear in the Big Blue House” from The Jim Henson Co.

Under terms of the deal, announced in February, Disney will own copyrights and trademarks to all Muppet TV, film and library assets, including Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Gonzo, in addition to a similar agreement for all assets pertaining to “Bear in the Big Blue House,” according to company officials.

Chris Curtin, a special assistant to Disney CEO Michael Eisner and instrumental in “galvanizing the entire company behind Disney's wonderful assets,” according to Eisner, has been named VP/GM of the “Muppets” and “Big Blue House” properties.
