Monsters, Inc. will come out of hiding Sept. 17 on a two-disc special edition for $29.99 (S.R.P.) and on VHS for $24.99 (S.R.P). Prebook date is July 23.
The winter hit from VHS from Walt Disney Home Entertainment and Pixar Animation Studios is nominated for four Academy Awards, including a face-off against a big green ogre for Best Animated Feature Film. It also scored nominations for Randy Newman for Best Original Score, and Best Original Song ("If I Didn't Have You") as well as a nod for Best Sound Editing.
The DVD and VHS feature an all-new animated short Mike's New Car created exclusively for this release with the voices of John Goodman and Billy Crystal; the Oscar-nominated Pixar short For the Birds, outtakes including the Monsters, Inc. characters in a "Company Play" musical performance; a sneak peek at the upcoming Disney-Pixar feature film Finding Nemo, and more.
The Monster World portion of the disc lets viewers enter the alternate world of Monstropolis for a first day on the job. Viewers become employees at the Monsters, Inc. factory, starting their day with Roz as they learn about the monsters, explore the employee handbook and learn about the history of the monster world. Other features include the "Disney/Pixar Storytime -- Welcome to Monstropolis" program, an all-new storybook of monster adventures; Boo's Door Game, a set-top adventure featuring Sulley and other characters from the film; DVD-ROM features and more.
In the Human World section, film buffs are invited to go behind the scenes with the 'humans' at Pixar and Disney to see how the film was created. Included in is a comprehensive tour through all aspects of the film, including in-depth behind-the-scenes programs, abandoned concepts, 3-D location flyarounds, a tour through Pixar's Fabulous Fun Factory, and a featurette on the song "If I Didn't Have You."
