DirecTV Holds Reputation As Premium Satellite Provider24 Jul, 2008 By: Carrie Widder
By focusing on high-definition, exclusive programming and placing high-profile celebrities in its ads, DirecTV has built its brand and holds the highest revenue per user in the U.S. pay-TV market at $80 a month, according to a Reuters report.
Comcast Corp. comes in second at $76 a month, while Dish Network Corp. is lowest with $68.
DirecTV has held a successful reputation in building high-definition programming, such as football's NFL Sunday Ticket, which comedy talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will begin to promote this summer.
By raising credit requirements in 2006, DirecTV began to attract a higher quality clientele who paid their bills on time. Despite the initial decline in subscriber growth, the company began to see a stronger capability to attract customers than rival Dish Network Corp., analysts told Reuters.
