Digital TV Converter Coupons Made Available

2 Jan, 2008 By: Chris Tribbey

The TV digital converter box coupon program is in full swing.

Starting the first of the year, millions of the $40 coupons were made available to consumers via the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, to allow consumers who own old analog TVs to receive digital broadcasts. A nationwide digital switchover will begin Feb. 18, 2009, where all broadcasters will be required to transmit digitally.

Consumers who already subscribe to satellite or cable services will not need the converter boxes, which are expected to cost as little as $50 and will be available at more than 100 retailers nationwide. Consumers can apply for two of the $40 coupons by visiting www.dtv2009.gov or by calling 1-888-388-2009.

According to The Associated Press, more than 14 million households will need the converter boxes.
