DIC Entertainment has cut a three-year distribution deal with Alliance Entertainment that it hopes will expand its reach into new retail and digital channels.
Alliance, which supplies DVDs to 5,000 U.S. storefronts and several key online retailers, will have a “first look” option to distribute, both on DVD and in digital formats, the newly produced TV programming block “KOL's Secret Slumber Party” on CBS, including “Horseland.”
Alliance also will have the option to distribute such direct-to-video properties as The Secret Millionaire's Club, as well as content from DIC's extensive library, such as “Sabrina: The Animated Series,” “Heathcliff,” “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Super Mario Bros.”
Alliance will market and distribute the properties to major mass market and specialty retailers, including national and regional supermarket and drugstore chains. The first product releases are scheduled for the first quarter of 2007. Additionally, Alliance will have the option to deliver DIC content via digital streaming and downloads.
Nancy Fowler, DIC's head of global sales, said the deal should “ensure widespread retail placement for DIC properties.”
“Their distribution expertise will result in an ongoing retail presence for both classic catalog titles and newly produced properties,” she said.
