Deluxe Media Services Leaves DVD

28 Dec, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf

Major DVD replicator Deluxe Media Services is getting out of DVD manufacturing.

Deluxe's parent company Rank sold its largest facility — a 712,000 sq. ft. plant in North Little Rock, Ark. — to German DVD manufacturer ODS Optical Disc Service.

The Arkansas site has 22 replication lines, capable of creating 150 million DVDs per year and distributing more than 1 million units each day.

Deluxe parent company Rank, a U.K.-based gaming business, is divesting all assets not related to bingo clubs and casinos. The company sold off its Hard Rock Caf? chain earlier this month.

ODS is the leading manufacturer and distributor of CDs and DVDs in Europe, with a daily output of more than 3 million discs. ODS currently holds a 4-and-a-half year exclusive contract for pan European manufacturing and distribution of DVDs for Universal Pictures International Entertainment, the international home entertainment division of Universal Studios.

As part of the Deluxe deal, ODS has acquired the DVD manufacturing license issued by MPEG-LA and 6C/Toshiba.

The company plans to keep on the current management at the North Little Rock facility and function as an independent supplier to the DVD industry, focusing on full service distribution and special packaging.
