DEG: HD Owners Happy15 Sep, 2006 By: Thomas K. Arnold
In a vote of confidence for HDTV, a new study shows that 97% of HDTV owners are satisfied with their sets and 59% are watching more TV as a result.
The survey of nearly 1,100 HDTV owners was commissioned by DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group and conducted by SmithGeiger LLC.
The study also found a fair amount of confusion, however, with 28% of consumers surveyed saying they were unsure how their set is connected. Just 11% said they believe they are using HDMI, the optimal connection for receiving HD programming.
Results of the study were announced Sept. 15 at the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) Expo in Denver. The DEG also is producing a consumer HDTV Guide as part of its retail educational campaign (HMR, Aug. 10) to help alleviate consumer confusion and promote awareness of high-definition products.
The guide will address such topics as what HDTV is, high-def viewing options, the differences in HDTVs and how to connect an HDTV. The guide will come packaged with various consumer electronics products and also will be available through participating retailers and CEDIA members. Copies also are available at the DEG Web site www.digitalentertainmentinfo.com or by calling the DEG office at 310/888-2201.
