Deep Throat Revelation May Add to 'President's Men' DVD

10 Jun, 2005 By: Jessica Wolf

Well before the recent revelations surrounding perhaps the most famous anonymous source in journalism history, Warner Home Video had an anniversary edition of All the President's Men on its schedule for next year. And it's possible Deep Throat will make an appearance on the upcoming special edition DVD.

The 1976 film is based on Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein's book detailing their reporting during the Watergate scandal of the Nixon era.

The movie highlights Woodward's highly placed, unnamed source, dubbed Deep Throat, who was recently revealed to be then-FBI deputy director Mark Felt.

Warner is currently working on the extra content for the two-disc 30th anniversary special edition, still planned for 2006, and is definitely considering working the Deep Throat revelation into the special features, a Warner spokesperson confirmed.

The current All the President's Men DVD in the market shot up to the No. 7 best-seller on Amazon.com in the week after the Deep Throat news broke.

The film, starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, first hit DVD from Warner with no extras in the studio's snapper-style case in 1997. It was re-promoted in 2002.

All the President's Men was nominated for eight Academy Awards in 1977 and won four, including best supporting actor for Jason Robards, who portrayed Post editor Ben Bradlee. It also won Oscars for best adapted screenplay, best sound and best art direction. The film was also up for best picture, best director, best supporting actress and best editing that year.
