Cable provider Comcast has announced that more than 1 billion programs have been viewed on its “On Demand” service to date this year.
Movies, music, sports and children's programming were cited as the most popular programming.
Comcast had expected 1 billion program views for the whole of 2005, up from 567 million views in 2004.
“One billion views in less than 10 months proves that On Demand is transforming the way people watch TV,” said Page Thompson, VP and GM of Comcast On Demand.
The top program to date in 2005 is the Ciara music video “1, 2 Step,” with 3.2 million views. The top children's program is the “SpongeBob SquarePants” episode, “The Chaperone,” with 1.3 million hits.
Comcast has offered On Demand programming since 2002.
