Comcast Collaborates With BitTorrent31 Mar, 2008 By: Kyra Kudick
Comcast Corp. March 27 announced it has joined the ranks of other major media corporations in collaborating with BitTorrent Inc. to facilitate better ways to transport large files over the Internet.
Comcast is currently under FCC investigation for allegedly breaking Internet neutrality guidelines by blocking online subscriber peer-to-peer file sharing. It is unknown if the announcement will have any affect on the investigation, according to The Associated Press.
Comcast has maintained that its practices were a necessary means of network management, but said it will no longer target files based on the type of protocol used, according to the AP.
“The outcome will be a traffic management technique that is more appropriate for today's emerging Internet trends,” said Tony Werner, Comcast chief technology officer.
