Columbia TriStar Gift Sets Pair Books With DVDs5 Aug, 2004 By: Jessica Wolf
Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has a little something for the literary crowd, streeting in time for back-to-school and to be on shelves as fourth-quarter gift sets.
CTHE's “Classic DVD and Book Collection” streets Sept. 28 and includes the titles Little Women, Persuasion, Sense and Sensibility and Tess, each available in special edition packaging with a DVD and a copy of the book upon which the movies are based, priced at $24.95. The date also marks the DVD debut of Tess, the 1979 Roman Polanski film starring Nastassja Kinski based on Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles. (The title is also available on DVD only at $24.96.)
Suzanne White, VP of family catalog marketing for CTHE, said the studio was looking to put together a fourth-quarter gift item.
“We thought this would be great for some accounts like book stores that have a customer who would really like a set like this,” she said. “All of the [book] titles are in the public domain so we were able to go back and print a version of the book and have a really nice compact size in the set with the DVD with really classy packaging.”
