Club Jenna, VOD Spur Playboy Q2 Growth7 Aug, 2007 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Strong video-on-demand revenues, including subscription VOD on both cable TV and online, helped Playboy Enterprises Inc. post second quarter (ended June 30) profit of $1.9 million, compared to a loss of $3.3 million during the same period last year.
During a call with investors, Christie Hefner, chairman and CEO of Playboy, said last year's acquisition of adult film star Jenna Jameson's Club Jenna brand helped the entertainment segment increase revenues to $51.8 million from $47.5 million last year.
She said the company has adapted to delivering content in VOD, which she said involves a different “shelf space” and consumer interface.
“We expect that the domestic TV business will remain stable while international TV and online will show year-over-year revenue growth,” Hefner said.
Total revenues topped $85 million, compared to $80 million last year.
