Clanagan Bows Urban Film Downloads16 Nov, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Jeff Clanagan, whose Codeblack Entertainment urban DVDs are distributed by Vivendi Visual Entertainment, has launched a movie download site, UrbanFilmClub.com.
The $14.99 monthly subscription service offers members a “movie of the month” electronic sellthrough and streaming (rental) selection from about 150 catalog titles.
The site features a “what's happening” entertainment section with gossip to “insider” industry highlights and information. The site claims it would allow aspiring filmmakers to submit their short script stories to share and sell online.
The first “movie of the month” title Steve Harvey: Don't Trip He Ain't Through With Me Yet (a concert film starring Steve Harvey) will be available next month. The film was released on DVD May 2nd.
No membership is needed to browse and purchase the titles but it does allow for a 10% discount on pricing.
“With the continuing success of entertainment-content retailing online, there is no reason why an African-American retailer cannot capture a relevant share of today's urban-entertainment marketplace,” said Clanagan. “I think that major online entertainment providers cannot be all things to all people and serve niche interests. We can build a profitable company by playing on a smaller level and making our business all about the cities, the people and the culture that make urban entertainment relevant to audiences of all race, color and demographic.”
