Cinram to Make and Distribute MGM Home Video

1 Mar, 2004 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Toronto-based DVD/VHS manufacturer and distributor Cinram International has entered into a multiyear deal with Los Angeles-based MGM Studios.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Under terms of the deal, Cinram will manufacture and distribute all home video product for MGM Home Entertainment in the United States and Canada to vendors that include Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Costco.

The agreement expands upon a 10-year distribution deal between Cinram and MGM Canada.

Taiwan-based replicator Infodisc, which previously handled MGM's domestic and Canadian DVD/VHS manufacturing and distribution, will continue during the transition, according to David Bloom, VP of corporate communications at MGM.

“[Cinram] is building stand-alone facilities [in Fresno, Calif., and Western Canada] for our product only,” said Bloom. “They are able to deliver a very sophisticated distribution system that is designed to keep us in the forefront in terms of getting our stuff to our partners as rapidly as possible.”
