Video-on-demand service CinemaNow Japan is making available for download Warner Bros. movies Ocean's Twelve, Constantine, Rebel Without a Cause and the original Tim Burton-directed Batman, among others.
The license agreement between Warner Bros. International Television, CinemaNow, Microsoft and Tokyo-based Transcosmos marks the first time a major Hollywood studio has agreed to make its content available by online subscription and pay-per-view to Japan's 32 million broadband users.
CinemaNow Japan's monthly subscription plan is $12 and videos are available for 48-hour access for $2 per title.
“This groundbreaking agreement is a great accomplishment for CinemaNow Japan and will deliver a first-of-its-kind service to the burgeoning Japanese market,” said Curt Marvis, CEO of CinemaNow and chairman of CinemaNow Japan. “It marks another major step forward in CinemaNow's mission to build a truly global distribution network that reaches localized markets.”
