CBS Bypasses iTunes to Sell 'Survivor'2 Feb, 2006 By: Erik Gruenwedel
CBS Corp., beginning tonight at midnight, will offer the popular reality show “Survivor” on its own Web site, CBS.com, for $1.99 per episode following the show's network season premiere.
Viewers would have 24 hours to view full episodes of “Survivor: Panama Exile,” which airs tonight.
The move marks a calculated effort by CBS to bypass Apple Computer's popular iPod portable media device, which last year began offering episodes of ABC hit shows “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” for $1.99.
CBS currently offers 99 cent catalog episodes of “Survivor,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “The Amazing Race” available at upstart Google Video and on pay-per-view with cable provider Comcast Corp.
