The new Bond is on tap for the new Blu-ray technology for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, along with the studio's first in-house full-length animated release Open Season.

The box office smash Casino Royale will hit the high-definition format March 13. The new Bond Daniel Craig garnered rave reviews for his take on the world's most iconic spy, but also for his part in the smaller film Layer Cake, which arrives on Blu-ray disc the same day.

Casino Royale added features include a featurette titled “Becoming Bond,” all about Craig's journey in the coveted role and another on the Bond leading ladies, as well as the Chris Cornell music video for “You Know My Name.”

Animated adventure Open Season streets Jan. 30 and marks the first SPHE release to include new encoding technology MPEG-4 AVC, which is also featured on the Casino Royale release in March.

Open Season extras include a new animated short with characters from the film, deleted scenes, two featurettes, three activities and commentaries.

“With software sales up 700 percent since the mid-November launch of Playstation 3 and other Blu-ray hardware from manufacturers, the market is poised for maximum impact blockbusters like Casino Royale,” said David Bishop, President, SPHE. “We're proud to be the first to deliver Bond on Blu-ray with the best picture and sound quality available today. This is just the tip of the iceberg for Blu-ray in 2007.”

Rounding out SPHE's early 2007 Blu-ray release schedule are the Jan. 16 arrival of Gridiron Gang, starring “The Rock” and Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse is the second Blu-ray Disc title to feature SPHE's Blu-Wizard(TM), a unique playlist technology that allows users to customize special features to create a personalized “playlist” that can be viewed as a supplement to the feature film. The disc includes several featurettes, a six-part making-of documentary, outtakes, commentary with cast and director and more.

Feb. 6 sees the release of Running With Scissors, based on Augusten Burroughs' acclaimed memoir, alongside catalog thriller The Tailor of Panama, starring Pierce Brosnan and Geoffrey Rush.

Action-adventure Vertical Limit streets Feb. 20 on Blu-ray.

Will Ferrell comedy Stranger than Fiction arrives on Blu-ray Feb. 27 stocked with several making-of featurettes, a photo gallery of the shooting script, commentaries, interviews with the cast, director, and producer, and more.
