In-Car Video Viewing May Become Illegal in New Mexico

15 Feb, 2005 By: Holly J. Wagner

New Mexico's legislature is considering a bill that would make it illegal for motorists to watch TV or video while driving.

State Sen. Dede Feldman (D-Albuquerque)'s SB86 bill, labeled “prohibit television viewing by drivers,” would forbid operating an in-car video screen in view of the driver, except for mapping and navigation systems.

It would also forbid retailers from installing the systems forward of the back of the driver's seat unless it is rigged to be inoperable while the vehicle is in motion.
