California Game Bill Passes Assembly

27 May, 2004 By: Kurt Indvik

A bill requiring video game retailers to post a sign “providing information about a video game rating system or notifying consumers that a rating system is available to aid in the selection of a game, and to make available, upon request, a brochure with information explaining the system” has passed the California State Assembly by a vote of 54-16, and is headed for the state senate for a floor vote.

AB 1793 was amended to delete a requirement segregating “Adults Only” games from other game merchandising before its passage.

The Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) said it continues to oppose the measure.
