California Bans Front-Seat Video Displays in Cars

7 Jan, 2004 By: Holly J. Wagner

An amendment to California law that took effect with the new year bans running most front-seat video displays when the car is in gear.

The new law allows rear-seat video screens and front-seat devices that help the driver, such as global positioning systems (GPSs), at any time, but requires that front-seat DVD players and similar devices must be wired so they only work when the vehicle is in park.
