BVHE Promotes Maehara to VP, Communications27 Jan, 2005 By: Thomas K. Arnold
Veteran publicist Eric Maehara has been promoted to VP of communications at Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
He will continue to oversee communications as well as various award campaigns throughout the Walt Disney Studios. In addition, Maehara will add trade marketing, acquisitions and consultation for product publicity to his duties.
“Eric has played a major role in the success of building BVHE's public image within the industry and The Walt Disney Co.,” said Bob Chapek, the division's president. “His talents have proven invaluable due to his incredible strategic ability and keen understanding of the needs and goals of our division.”
Maehara has worked at Disney since 1991 and joined the studio's home entertainment division in 1997 as publicity manager. While he initially handled product publicity, in recent years he has been involved in a wide range of public relations and marketing chores, from working on Oscar campaigns to strategic studio initiatives.
During his tenure, Maehara has overseen successful campaigns behind such key titles as Toy Story, Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc. and the first two Scream movies. He also has worked on motion-picture campaigns for such high-profile hits as The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.
Heidi Trotta, SVP of communications for The Walt Disney Studios, said Maehara has “one of the best public relations minds in the business.” She applauds his “out-of-the-box thinking, combined with his incredible enthusiasm.”
