Buyers Group to Collect Tanning Data

Minnesota-based Video Buyers Group will launch a national survey to gather benchmarking data on some 3,000 stores that deal both in tanning and video.

The data will also allow these “combo” retailers to share ideas and assess what is and isn't working in marketing and cross-promoting the two businesses, said VBG president Ted Engen.

Since this group is not separately identified within either industry, they have been unable to compare their revenue, expenses, advertising or other data, he said. VBG, which already represents 350 video/tanning retailers, will send out the survey this month and present preliminary results at the group's annual show in Minneapolis in mid-August.
