BULLETIN: Indies, Blockbuster Trial Date Set24 May, 2001 By: Hive News
A federal judge in San Antonio, Texas, has set a Jan. 14, 2002, trial date for an antitrust lawsuit that two independent video dealers brought against Blockbuster.
Attorneys for John Merchant, et al, sought class action status for the federal case, but decided to pursue it in California state court whenthe Texas judge refused to recognize the plaintiffs as a class. No trial date has been set in the California class action.
The cases allege that Blockbuster's revenue-sharing agreements with Hollywood studios created more favorable terms for Blockbuster, helping the chain crush competing independents with pricing and copy-depth advantages.
