Borders Revisits Web Store27 May, 2008 By: Billy Gil
Borders Group has decided to reopen its online store separate from seven-year partner Amazon.com, according to The Associated Press. Analysts said Borders' latest move may be a long shot.
“Amazon just dominates,” said Fred Crawford, managing director at restructuring consultant AlixPartners. “Amazon is nearly unassailable.”
Borders has recently hinted it may put itself up for sale, with competitor Barnes & Noble saying it will consider buying Borders. The company has lost business to online retailers and discount stores such as Wal-Mart Stores, according to the AP.
Borders.com has taken shoppers to a site partnered with Amazon since 2001.
