Sales of Blu-ray titles are projected to increase 150% to $2.9 billion this year from $1.1 billion in 2008, according to research firm Media Control GfK International. That’s nearly twice the $1.5 billion generated by digital last year, which included VOD and broadband.
The DVD Forum has adopted Montreal-based Sensio’s 3-D technology as an optional DVD standard, a Sensio spokeswoman said Jan. 27. It’s the first time a 3-D video specification has been recognized as a standard for DVD.
Work is proceeding on the fourth direct-to-video sequel to Bring It On, the $63 million-grossing cheerleader comedy from 2000 that has already spawned three top-selling DTV spinoffs, from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
