Blu-ray Sales Increasing in Japan

28 May, 2008 By: Kyra Kudick

Japanese research firm BCN Ltd. reports sales of Blu-ray recorders are increasing in Japan, according to Reuters.

The BCN survey figures showed April sales for Blu-ray in Japan were nearly three times the 12.4% share for both high-def formats before HD DVD lost the format war, Reuters reported.

BCN also stated the more expensive Blu-ray recorders topped the previous generation recorders in the value of sales for the first time in April, with about a third of machines sold carrying the new format, according to Reuters.

BCN further predicts Blu-ray sales to expand in the coming months as consumer electronics manufacturers cut prices in anticipation of the Beijing Olympics, Reuters reported.
