Blu-ray Hardware May Have Slow Rollout1 Sep, 2006 By: Jessica Wolf
The rollout of new hardware for the high-definition Blu-ray Disc playback hardware could be more like a trickle, according to a report on techhie Web site www.digitaltimes.com.
The site is reporting that some manufacturers other than Sony Electronics will find themselves short of the Blu-ray diodes integral to the manufacture of Blu-ray machines. Sony has reportedly stopped shipping the diodes to other manufacturers, according to the site.
The Blu-ray enabled PlayStation3 may pop with a smaller than expected launch in the fourth quarter as well, DigitalTimes.com is reporting. Sony's PlayStation arm is supposed to ship 2 million units of the new platform in November and another 2 million in December, but manufacturing delays could halve that number, according to the story, citing manufacturers in China and Japan.
